There are plenty of student credit cards on the market, but the Discover it Student Chrome is one of the few that will give you double rewards on gas and dining purchases. You'll earn 2% cash back on up to $1,000 spent each quarter in those categories, plus 1% back on all other purchases.
For the first year, Discover will double all the cash back you earn—you'll receive the full match on your cardmember anniversary.
One more way to earn cash back is to get good grades. For up to five years, you'll get $20 each year when you have a 3.0 GPA or higher.
The card doesn't have an annual fee, nor does it charge a foreign transaction fee. That said, Discover doesn't have broad acceptance outside the United States, so consider having a backup payment method in case you're studying abroad or plan to travel overseas.
