The card issuer also reports your payment history to the three credit bureaus each month, and making full, on-time payments can help to improve your creditworthiness over time.

You don’t have to put any money down: The TOTAL Visa Unsecured Credit Card doesn’t require you to make a security deposit in order to be eligible for a line of credit. It’s a good alternative to a secured credit card if you don’t have the money for a down payment but still want to improve your poor credit.

TOTAL Visa Unsecured Credit Card: Drawbacks and Downsides

While the Total Visa Unsecured Credit Card does have some benefits for those with poor credit, there are also some drawbacks you should be aware of.

You’ll pay a lot just to have this card: The first year you have the card, you’ll pay $164 in various fees. Every year after that, you’ll pay an additional $123. That amount comes off of your credit limit, so you won’t really be able to spend $300 each month. You can apply for a higher credit limit after six months, but you may be better off going with a more affordable card instead if your credit has improved enough.

The high interest rates could hurt your credit: With an APR of 29.99%, you’ll end up paying a lot in interest if you have to carry a balance on this card. If you max out your $300 credit limit and only make the minimum $38 payment each month, it’ll take you nine months to pay back and you’ll pay an extra $38 in interest. Some users can’t get out of that cycle and the credit card ends up hurting them more than helping them.
